Rev. Donald M. Scandrol

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Reverend Donald M. Scandrol, 84, of Holland Township, NJ, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ.

Don was born February 14, 1933. He grew up in Pittsburg, PA and remained a Pirates and Steelers fan throughout his life. He graduated from Taylor Allerdice High School. Don went to California University of Pennsylvania for two years, joined the US Navy for two years and served during the Korean War, and then returned to California University of Pennsylvania to obtain a teaching degree. He attended and graduated from Wesley Seminary in Washington, DC, and served churches in Vermont and Bayonne, NJ while getting clinical pastoral training in New York and Philadelphia as Chaplain at Children's Village, Dobbs Ferry, NY. Don spent 30 years as a Chaplain at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Morris County, NJ. Don loved the Navy, Veterans, and was a supporter of them. He loved to sing and will be missed by the choir at the First United Church of Christ in Milford, NJ. Don enjoyed flying his 152 airplane for 21 years. He collected toy trains and antique toys for 50 years.

Son of the late John Paul and Margaret (Noah) Scandrol, Don is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth "Bette" Scandrol, with whom he would have celebrated is 57th anniversary on June 20th. He is also survived by his niece Paula Jean Scandrol and his nephew John Scandrol. He was predeceased by his brother Paul Scandrol, who had been a public school music teacher.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 12 PM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday from 11 AM to 12 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
