Karl J. Nielsen, Jr.

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, NJ - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend left this world too soon on February 24, 2018. Kind and giving to a fault, and with a twinkle in his eye, Karl touched the lives of many. His love of travel paired well with his drive to help others, which he did through mission trips here and abroad, always endeavoring to leave each place he visited a little bit better than when he arrived, but never seeking credit.

Born on January 25, 1943 to Lillian Senior Nielsen and Karl Jens Nielsen, Sr., Karl was raised on a dairy farm in Alexandria Township, NJ before moving to Holland Township in 1966. He attended Delaware Valley Regional High School and graduated from Delaware Valley College with a BS in Business Administration. After retiring 4 years ago from BASF Corporation, he enjoyed his daily walks on the bike path in Frenchtown and meeting friends along the way. He was a volunteer Bill Payer for Hunterdon County and many years ago had been a Host Home volunteer for Teens in Crisis.

Karl was a devoted and beloved member of Alexandria First Presbyterian Church for 46 years. There was little that Karl was not involved in at the church, but a few of his roles over this time include: church treasurer for 20 years, current elder and chair of the Stewardship and Finance Team, chair of the recent Capital Campaign, deacon, youth mentor, sr. high youth group advisor, youth mission trip leader and adult mission trip participant to Haiti (to install a clean water system). In addition to his work at the church, Karl was also active with the Presbytery of New Brunswick where he served on the Personnel Committee, the Budget Committee, the Social Witness Committee and Mission Interpretation Committee. He enjoyed participating in Presbytery mission trips to Ghana and Taiwan.

Karl is survived by the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Flora Stamets Nielsen; his loving children Bryon Nielsen (Jenny), Pamela Nielsen (Larry), and Chris Nielsen (Kimberly); his three precious grandchildren, Grace, Ethan and Lucas; his siblings David, Ruth, Roger, and Lorraine; and numerous dear and devoted friends, whose lives were enriched by Karl’s presence.

A Celebration of Karl's Life will be held on Saturday, March, 3, 2018 at 11 AM at the Alexandria First Presbyterian Church, 141 Little York-Mt. Pleasant Road (Route 519), Milford, NJ. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karl's memory to Alexandria First Presbyterian Church, 141 Little York-Mt. Pleasant Road, Milford, NJ 08848.
