Mildred K. Wehr

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Mildred Kathryn Wehr went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the age of 95. She was born on January 1, 1923, daughter of Jacob B. Risler and Edna B. Sherman of Barbertown, New Jersey. She is survived by her loving family, daughters Lynne Dalrymple and husband Rev. William of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., Sharon Attinello and husband Rob of Frenchtown, N.J. and Debra Ubel and husband Rudy of Plainfield Township, PA. She was Grammy to Lauren, Sarah, Katie, Nathan, Rudy and wife Tamara, Justin and Gram Gram to Rudy IV and Talia Wren. Her husband, William J. Wehr, a World War II veteran, died in 1991 and her son, Douglas Mark, died at birth in 1959.

Mildred was a member of the Baptistown Baptist Church for 76 years faithfully serving in several capacities. She was an active member of several boards, a Sunday School teacher and served with her dear friend Ruth Zdepski as leader of the Baptist Youth Fellowship. Mildred also was involved with local Brownie and Girl Scout troops along side her dear friend Susan Wynn.

Mildred was secretary of the Kingwood Historical Society for 29 years researching township history and naming local roads accordingly. She was a trustee for Friends of Locktown Old Stone Church. Her career centered around her work as reporter for the Hunterdon Republican newspaper during World War II and worked many years as a bookkeeper for local businesses. She was a member of the Kingwood Rescue Squad, photographer and historian for the Kingwood Merry Mixers. The Wehr's owned and operated Wehr’s Engine Service in Baptistown for 50 years.

Mildred loved all aspects of the great outdoors including her pansy and herb gardens. She was a devoted bird watcher faithfully feeding her feathered friends throughout the year. She was an avid reader and loved helping those in need. She delivered Meals on Wheels in the community and enjoyed country road trips with her long time friend Anna Zdepski. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Mildred's family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 10-11 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ followed by a funeral service at 11 AM officiated by Pastor Randy Nelson. Interment will follow at the Rosemont Cemetery in Rosemont, NJ.
