Thomas J. Smith

BETHLEHEM TOWNSHIP, PA - Thomas J. Smith, 74, of Bethlehem Township, PA, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, while doing one of his favorite things, hunting, in Alexandria Township, NJ.

Born September 3, 1944 in Salina, KS, Tom was raised and lived in Annandale, NJ before moving to Alexandria Township, NJ in 1971 where he lived for many years, before moving to Bethlehem Township, PA in 1997. He graduated from North Hunterdon High School in 1963. Tom served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. He served as a military police officer in several countries and as a military game warden during his service in Alaska. He went on to serve his community as a police officer in Frenchtown, NJ, for twenty five years, before retiring.

Son of the late Marvin J. and Alma V. (Hoffman) Smith, Tom is survived by his beloved wife of fifty one years, Mabel E. (Tinnel) Smith, his son Lyle J. Smith, Sr., his two daughters Rachael M. Compos and her husband Josh and Victoria L. Fritz, special daughter and son-in-law Tina and Karl Larsen, five brothers, one sister, thirteen grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He was predeceased by his brother William Smith.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from 10-11 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ. A Celebration of Tom's Life, with military honors, will follow at 11 AM with Rev. William "Tex" Culton officiating. His interment will be private, at a later date, in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Alexandria Township, NJ.
