Sharon L. Bowers

Sharon L. Bowers

A lifelong fan of the color blue, horses, birds, butterflies, country music, her beloved dogs, and especially shopping, Sharon L. Bowers made her transition peacefully at her home in Independence Manor in Flemington NJ on February 13th at the age of 70.

Sharon was the youngest child of Herbert and Mildred Erck of Milford NJ. A graduate of Delaware Valley High School, Sharon devoted most of her career to administrative responsibilities for Century Link/Sprint in the Clinton NJ office.

She married Lawrence H. (Larry) Bowers in 1984 and lived happily with him in his childhood home in Bethlehem Township until his unexpected death in 2015. She is survived by several members of Larry’s family, including her sisters-in-law Joan Deats of Denham Springs LA, and Carolyn Cordes of Glen Gardner NJ, her niece Sharon Deats of Denham Springs LA, her nephews Henry and Michael Cordes of Hampton NJ, Charles Cordes of Glen Gardner NJ, her deceased sister-in-law Joyce Fields’ sons David and Chris Fields of Washington area NJ; and their families.

Sharon loved local and long-distance motorcycle trips with Larry – riding her own motorcycle – planting flowers around their home, eating out, gathering with family, reading mysteries and romances, watching Starsky & Hutch, and caring for her many dogs over the years – all rescues.

Riding her horse Cheyenne in the Lebanon Fourth of July parade, both she and Cheyenne in Western costume, was one of the proudest moments of her life. She collected animal art and created many needlework and craft gifts for family and friends. Throughout her life, she was blessed with a spirited sense of humor.

Surviving members of her family include her deceased brother Herbert Erck’s children: Cheryl Piscata of Lee’s Summit MO, and Michelle Brenizer of Belton MO; her deceased sister Genevieve Grimm’s husband James of Richmond IN, and their children: Jimm Grimm, of Huntingdon Valley PA; Edward Grimm of Malvern MA; and Christopher Grimm of Richmond IN; her cousin and aunt, Barbara and Claire Hawke, of Milford NJ; her uncle, Walter Erck, and his wife Ellen, of Ringoes NJ; Walter’s children: Walter Erck Jr. of Williamsburg VA, Richard Erck of Sparta NJ, and Glen Erck of Pittsburgh PA; her cousins Marilyn Bernier of Denver CO, Lois Riggs of Branchburg NJ, and Nancy Smith of Stockton NJ; and their families.

Sharon is under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home in Milford, NJ, (JohnsonWalton.com) and will be interred privately in Cherryville Mountainview Cemetery in Flemington. Friends and out-of-town family will be invited to join a memorial celebration of Sharon’s life to be held this spring, with details to follow.

Sharon requested that in lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Nature Conservancy (nature.org), the ASPCA (aspca.org), or the charity of their choice.
