Juliana L. Ruby

Juliana L. Ruby

Juliana L. Ruby, 74, of Alexandria Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at her home.

Julie was born June 20, 1946 in Rochester, NY, and lived in Florida and New York City, NY, before settling in Alexandria Township, NJ over 25 years ago. She earned an Associate’s Degree at Daytona Beach Junior College in Daytona Beach, FL. Julie worked as a Production Editor for NJ Monthly Magazine in Morristown, NJ. In 1991 she took a position at Gill St. Bernard’s Preparatory School in Gladstone, NJ directing the office of Alumnae Development before retiring in 2014.

She enjoyed riding and showing horses when she was younger, and traveled to Switzerland and England on several occasions. Julie had many passions, including gardening, quilting and reading cozy mysteries. Julie named her 200 year old home Foxglove Cottage, inspired by the magnificent garden she created and expanded for over two decades. She was known locally and lovingly as the Garden Guru, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of plant species. She held a spiritual reverence for birds, trees and nature in general.

She was also passionate about quilting, carefully selecting the fabric patterns and colors with the intended recipient friend in mind. She had a tremendous sense of color and design, and took meticulous care in furnishing and decorating her home, making it the essence of coziness.

Julie was a loving and devoted friend who never shied from helping no matter what was needed. She loved a good laugh, a stiff drink, and being with her friends making good mischief with her sharp wit.

Daughter of the late Willard R. and Laura (Hughes) Ruby, Julie is survived by her brother Edward Ruby and his partner Margaret of Kailua, HI.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care of Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ 08848.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gill St. Bernard’s Preparatory School, P.O. Box 604, Gladstone, NJ 07934.

When my boss assigned me to give care to Julie, I was a bit hesitant. But when I met her, I knew I had met an angel. I would say she is among the few sweetest persons I have met, just as her favorite; popsicle and peach. I may not have met or known her for long, but the few days spent with her were worthy. She was amazing and will forever be remembered. This is a difficult time, and I am so sorry it has to be this way. Please accept my condolences and prayers!

My dear childhood friend from Rochester, I will forever remember you. Days filled with girl scouting, riding bikes, walks to and from school, movies, holidays, and all the other things we naturally take for granted growing up. We lost touch when you moved to Florida, but I never lost the knowledge of the true friendship we shared. I hope you had a beautiful life full of happiness, and all your dreams came true. Sorry I never got to renew our friendship, but will always remember the great times we had at No. 28 School, East High, roller skating, rock & roll, birthday parties, silly adolescent fun days dreaming of college and meeting that special someone. Such wonderful times and memories. My deepest condolences to the Ruby family at this sad time.
