Alverta C. VanFossen

Alverta C. VanFossen, 101, a longtime resident of Frenchtown, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.

Born August 12, 1919 in Berwick, PA, Alverta lived in Lebanon, NJ before moving to Frenchtown, NJ in 1972. She was a homemaker and family meant everything to her. Alverta was a devout Christian and loved reading the Bible. Crocheting lap blankets for residents of nursing homes and playing board games with her family were among her favorite things to do. Alverta attended Everittstown United Methodist Church. She was a past secretary of the Frenchtown Senior Citizens.

Daughter of the late Grover and Pearl (Whitebread) Heller, Alverta is survived by her two sons Grant H. VanFossen and his wife Charlotte of Lebanon, NJ and Donald G. VanFossen and his wife Lynne of Pattenburg, NJ, her sister Blanche Heller of Hazleton, PA, her eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Grant L. VanFossen in 1995, and her ten brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 11 AM at the Frenchtown Cemetery in Frenchtown, NJ. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pattenburg Fire Department Canine Unit, 513 County Road 614, Asbury, NJ 08802.
