William F. Mowder

William F. Mowder, 88, of Milford, NJ, passed away on January 10, 2022. Born April 5, 1933 in Washington, NJ, he was the son of the late Samuel and Ruth Mowder.

He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Missouri, BB63 from 1950 to January 1954 during Korean War serving two tours of duty, in Korea. He worked 13 years at Riegel Paper Corp. until he went into business for himself in 1968 at Bill’s Manor Sunoco Service Station, Pohatcong Township, NJ, retiring from the service station in 1992. He got his commercial driving license and went on to drive school bus for Hunterdon Central Regional High School retiring in 2007.

Bill loved airplanes and flying from a teenager on. He owned several airplanes with partners thru the years. In 1972, with a friend, they built a bi-plane, Pitts Special. Bill enjoyed traveling over the years to Air Shows, Air Races in Reno, Nevada and with the USS Missouri BB63 Association Reunions throughout the United States. Bill was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Milford, NJ, the USS Missouri BB63 Association, the VFW in Milford, NJ, the American Legion Post 113 in Frenchtown, NJ, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Academy of Model Aeronautics, and the A.O.P.A.

He is survived by his wife Laura Darlington Mowder, with whom he celebrated 31 years of marriage, his daughters LouAnn Pursell and husband John, and Susan Ulmer and husband Raymond, step-daughter Sandra Darlington, step-son Gerald Darlington, daughter-in-law Janet Mowder, step-son-in-law James Werkheiser, a sister Patricia Wheat in Tennessee, seven grandchildren William Mowder, Cody Mowder, Kale Mowder, Chad Ulmer, Eric Ulmer, Lisa Hamerstone, Julianna Leidy, two step-grandchildren Rick Minorics and Amber Mabus, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Doris Jean Anderson Mowder, who he celebrated 31 years of marriage, his son William Dale Mowder, and his step-daughter Laura Werkheiser.

To respect Bill’s wishes, there will not be a viewing or services. Arrangements are under the care of Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ 08848.
