Howard C. Troy

Howard Cornelius Troy, 95, of Pittstown, NJ, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022 at Concord Hospital in Concord, NH.

Howard was born on July 22, 1927 in Plainfield, NJ. He was a devoted husband and father. Whether it be traveling with his wife or family on vacation, or research trips, he made sure it was always special. Howard supported his children in everything they did from horses to sports, band, cheerleading, theater, and airplanes. Dad made time for us all.

Howard worked and was eventually a co-owner in Troy’s Lock Shop in North Plainfield (1919-1991). He was a master locksmith and a member of the Associated Locksmiths of America. He also excelled in safe manipulation, even doing some work for patent companies cracking new combination lock designs.

Howard served his country in World War II as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne in 1945. Howard had many interests and he spent his lifetime learning about them all. Family and family history, Troy Lock Co., flying, hunting, homemade wine, gardening, antique firearms, travel (in the motor home with his beloved wife Alice or on a hunting trip with long-time hunting pal George), golf, to name a few. Computer and technology fascinated him, and scanning photos to save or print became a favorite project. As a hunter, he traveled areas around the world, including Africa with his wife and a camera. Howard was an avid shooter and was known as an expert in antique arms, specializing in US Martial Carbines in which he covered a period of 1807-1943. Also, in addition, Howard had a lifetime membership to the Forks of the Delaware Weapons Association and a 70 year membership as a Master Mason of the Scottish Rite Free Masonry.

Howard also loved airplanes and obtained his private pilot’s license. Later in life, he became an aircraft owner. Another passion was gardening. He always maintained a large garden and plants around the property. It seems like he was most at ease when he was outdoors.

Son of the late George A. and Anna (Cammeratt) Troy, Howard is survived by his two daughters Lisa Wickman of Epsom, NH and Lori Troy of Pittstown, NJ, his son Gregory A. Troy of Phillipsburg, NJ, his two grandchildren Gabrielle Troy and Logann Troy, and his great-granddaughter Paisleigh. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Alice (Marczak) Troy in 1995, his two brothers George A. Troy and Kenneth J. Troy, and his sister Martha Rosalin. Howard is loved and will be sorely missed as he starts his new journey.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Monday, September 12, 2022 from 10-11:30 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM with Pastor Linda Bullock officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at the Lake Nelson Memorial Park in Piscataway, NJ.
