Lavera L. Degan

Lavera L. Degan, 99, of Bridgeton Township, PA, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Utz Terrace in Hanover, PA.

Born September 1, 1923 in Upper Black Eddy, PA, Lavera worked at Plessey Ceramics of Frenchtown for 25 years, retiring in 1985. She was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. Lavera loved watching birds at her bird feeder, spending time with her family and having family picnics, and listening to country music. Most of all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Daughter of the late Nathan and Anna (Godown) Mills, Lavera is survived by her daughter Beverly Smith of Hanover, PA, her two sons Wayne Degan of Phillipsburg, NJ and David Degan of Upper Black Eddy, PA, her sister Anna Diehl of Kintnersville, PA, her ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Harry Degan, her son James Degan, her four brothers, and four sisters.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 12-1PM at the Johnson Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ, followed by a celebration of Lavera's life at 1PM with Pastor Linda Bullock, PhD. officiating. Interment will follow at the Nockamixon Union Cemetery in Ferndale, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Black Eddy Fire Company, PO Box 171, Upper Black Eddy, PA 18972 or the St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 67, Ferndale, PA 18921.
