Veronica "Pat" Smith

Veronica

Veronica “Pat” Smith passed away peacefully, at the age of 96, at her home in Milford, NJ, on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

Veronica was born in New Brunswick, NJ. She lived in Milltown, NJ and retired to Holland Township, NJ. Veronica married Robert “Bob” Smith and together they raised 5 children, Tom (Maryalice), Jim (Kerry), Joanne Smith Bodnar, Barb (Tim), and Paul. Veronica graduated from St. Peter’s School of Nursing and was an OR nurse before raising a family. Later she earned a BA degree in education followed by a MA degree. She was employed by the Sayreville Board of Education and later by the East Brunswick Vocational School as a CIE coordinator. Here she guided hundreds of students and found employment for them in their chosen field of interest. Veronica was an avid cook, baker, accomplished seamstress, canned and preserved goods from our grandparents farm. Family members were recipients of her extraordinary quilts. She made porcelain dolls, formed a church quilting group and raffled many quilts for the church’s benefit. Pat will be remembered for the numerous Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls she made for all her 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several more to come. Veronica was a kind, loving, generous and thoughtful person, well known for celebrating birthdays of family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. An active member of St. Edward’s parish in Milford, she served as a Eucharistic Minister, and was President of the Alter Rosary Society planning numerous dinners and presenting an interesting selection of programming. Veronica enjoyed travel with her husband Bob, trips in his plane and visiting family and grandchildren. Veronica will fondly be remembered for her love, dedication, generosity, care and concern to all and her family as well as her many talents. She is predeceased by her husband Bob and sister Margaret.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM at St. Edward the Confessor R.C. Church, 61 Mill Street, Milford, NJ, with Father Bede Kim officiating. Entombment will follow at the St. Magdalen Mausoleum in Flemington, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders, HEIFER, Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
