Shirley A. Sloyer

Shirley A. Sloyer, 99, of Runnemede, NJ, formerly of Holland Township, NJ, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2019 at home.

Born February 7, 1920 in Liberty Corner, NJ, Shirley lived in Milford and Holland Township, NJ for most of her life, before moving to Runnemede, NJ in 2015. Shirley graduated from Trenton State Teachers College. She was a kindergarten teacher at Milford School for 34 years. Shirley was an avid bowler. She bowled in three leagues in Phillipsburg and Frenchtown. Every summer Shirley participated in the National Bowling Tournaments. In 2009, USBC awarded Shirley a plaque for participating in twenty-five years of consecutive national tournaments. She was a member of the National Educators Association- Retired, NJ Retired Educators Association, and Hunterdon County Retired Educators Association. Shirley was also a member of the Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder and taught Sunday School.

Daughter of the late Philip J. and Caroline Elizabeth (Steltman) Anstedt, Shirley is survived by her son Wallace L. Sloyer and his wife Claudette, her three daughters Carol Ianovale and her companion John Weiser, Ann Marie Mindler and her husband Peter, and Sharon McGowan and her husband Michael, her twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and a great great-grandchild. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and brother in-law Herbert and wife Betty Sloyer. Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband Wallace R. Sloyer in 1981, and her three brothers Charles, Philip, and Edward.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a viewing on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 11 AM to 12 PM at the Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church, 17 Greenwich Church Road, Stewartsville, NJ, followed by a funeral service at 12 PM. Interment will follow at the Greenwich Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church, 17 Greenwich Church Road, Stewartsville, NJ 08886.

With deepest sympathies to the family. I was away in NC and just read the paper and was so sad to read about Shirley's passing. I loved Shirley; always so much fun to be with. I bowled with her for many years in Frenchtown and also some local tournaments. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Shirley may you RIP and thank you for so many fond memories.
