Erich Hass

Erich Hass, 92, of Phillipsburg, NJ, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Brakeley Park Center in Lopatcong Township, NJ.

Born February 24, 1930 in Hohenfelde, Germany, Erich came to America in 1956. He lived in Piscataway, Plainfield, and Holland Township, NJ, before finally settling in Phillipsburg, NJ. Erich was a cabinet maker for the Carpenters Union Local 155 for 24 years. He then worked in maintenance at Rutgers University for 16 years, retiring in 1993. Erich loved people, but most of all, he loved to dance and waltz with his beloved wife Alice. He enjoyed gardening, walking, being in nature, and playing button box. Erich belonged to Sanger Hall in North Plainfield, NJ. He was of Lutheran faith and was a former member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Plainfield, NJ and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riegelsville, PA.

Son of the late Hinrich and Minna (Gollop) Hass, Erich is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Alice (Hagen) Hass. He was predeceased by his son Manfred “Freddy” Hass in 1993, his two brothers Hans Hass and Hannes Hass, and his two sisters Anni Boem and Erna Vollertsen.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 5, 2022 at 11 AM at the Milford Union Cemetery in Milford, NJ. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ.
