Chester Podpora

Chester Podpora, 79, of Kingwood Township, NJ unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, NJ with his family by his side.
Born June 24, 1943 in Plainfield, NJ, Chet was a member of The Dynamics doo-wop band as a teenager and of the DVRHS State Football Champions of 1960 before joining the US Army. An avid nature lover, he became a Kingwood Township resident in 1966. He would spend many mornings bird watching and many nights star gazing. Chet worked as a skilled audio video installer for High Fidelity House where many coworkers would become family. He enjoyed “firework displays, any ol time," taking a chainsaw to a good piece of firewood, a funky song, and drinking the first cup of fresh coffee. Dressed in signature flannels, pocket t-shirts stuffed with eyeglasses and cigars, he carried himself with a comfortable pride that could make anyone a friend. Chester was an active man, traveling often with his loyal companion Kathe. Our compassionate "Poppy" learned to love each cat that decided to make his barn their home. Above all, he loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, who would still line up for a hug with each greeting.

Son of the late Walter and Helen (Skrzypczak) Podpora, Chester is survived by his son Chester H. Podpora and his wife Michele of Kulpmont, PA, his daughter Lori Podpora of Mt. Carmel, PA, his two brothers Walter Podpora of Milford, NJ and Michael Podpora of Pittstown, NJ, two sisters Janet Kresge of Berwick, PA and Helen Marie Walters of New Mexico, companion Kathe of Doylestown, PA, his 11 grandchildren; Amanda, Alexa, Tyra, Kyle, Justin, Caitlyn, Cheyenne, Julia, Christina, Rachyl, and Chester, 11 great- great-grandchildren; Evan, Max, Harper, Hunter, Liam, Noah, Mia, Neko, Enzo, and Jaxson, nieces Deb, Bonnie, Betsy, Carole Anne, Christy, Barbie, Kate, and Lynzi, nephews Wally, Buddy, and Phil. Also by family members; Susan and Andrew. He was predeceased by his parents; Walter and Helen Podpora, wife Judith (Chandler) Podpora and sister Rosemary Carter.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 10-11 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ, followed by a memorial service at 11 AM with Father Kris Kaczynski officiating. Flannel shirts are encouraged, however optional.

Memorial contributions may be made to The National Museum of the United States Army, of which Chet was a proud sponsor: PO Box 96281 Washington, DC 20090-6281.

Condolences

So sorry to hear of Chet's passing, he was such a lovely man and unfortunately we really didn't get to visit that often. I know he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The only Grace is that he did not suffer long which is a blessing. Unfortunately, I cannot attend the funeral as I am just a little younger than Chet and have problems walking. I can only pray for his family and this great loss. Lots of Love Jean.

As a graduate of DelVal HS, I was happy to reconnect with Chet and his brother Walt recently at the funeral of a mutual friend. I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you in my prayers.

My deepest sympathies to Chet's family and friend. So sorry for your loss. Chet was a great man and a loyal employee for many years. Chet was an integral part of the growth and success of Hi Fi House Abington/Jenkintown. He always put the client and the company first. Dawn and I are unable to attend although our thoughts and prayers are with Chet's family. May he rest in piece.
